My experience working on Next Generation Radio was a test of endurance, confidence and speed. I went into this week thinking that I would have trouble keeping up, but I was incredibly surprised to learn that I was working at a fast pace and kept ahead of the game. I am so grateful that I worked quickly because it gave me the mood boost that I needed to keep my spirits high for the next task. I appreciated learning more about the Adobe Audition software and how to add room tone to the timeline to even out the sound and make it cohesive.

One thing I would do differently is checking my levels before recording my stand up because I had to retake my shot a few times, which left me frustrated and scattered as I was trying to finish. I would also work on staying quiet while my subject was being interviewed so that I would not have to worry about engineering around my voice.

The first thing I plan to do after this week is work on updating my journalism portfolio, search for more radio opportunities and keep in touch with my mentors and the connections I made. I want to especially thank my mentor, Cristina, for hyping me up and giving me credit at every opportunity she could. I really believe that Cristina and I had amazing energy between us that kept us moving quickly to stay super ahead of the game!

I am beyond grateful for this experience and can’t wait to see where this opportunity is going to take me next in my audio journalism career. I hope that I can continue working as a radio journalist, covering more stories about California’s Indigenous peoples and local news wherever I am based. I know that this experience with Next Generation Radio is going to look amazing in my portfolio! I am excited to meet more people in the industry who will perk up when I mention that I worked with NextGen. Thank you for the loveliest week I’ve ever had! Hakup a’ai (thank you so much)!
